Poem 3

Candied wishes cover falling leaves

Ever so gently designed around a central theme

A sentence on every fragment laying around the yard

Forming as one, stained by sappy pine

Forming as one, telling that you are mine

And while gentle cuts and nicks can change the name

An original design shows without you I’m just not the same

Snow falls over vigilant pine

Who made note of the leaves declaring you were mine

And while inches of clean slates cannot erase our hearts
desire

Falling reminders of what could be lost in a lustful fire

So spring can come and summer can stall

No one can deny creating love much at all

So long as leaves covered point the way to spring

So long as etchings prove we’re more than a fling

So long as we careen our way into each others arms

and watching falling leaves

with candied wishes

and sentences fragment

two people descend

I think I will stay along for the ride

Because it would take eons

For my love to subside
